The publish button wasn’t working on my other blog, so I had to move the post here… 😥
Writing in the Modern Age 2019 Year in Review:
Big Reflections – Past and Present
Hi, everyone! A year I imagined would crawl right by, in fact, did
not. Instead it flew so fast, I suffered vertigo several times. 😉
Tomorrow we’ll adjust our calendars to reflect that life has
changed in a blink, welcoming 2020. For this year’s annual review
post, I’d like to commemorate the evolution of Writing in the
Modern Age. Six years ago, I opened the blog to guest authors and
it’s been a wild ride ever since. WritModAge grew from the initial
seed of a place to help other writers at any stage of their careers, all
the way to not just that, but also a site where readers can
comfortably discover their new, favorite authors! Through author and
character interviews, book and writing service interviews, guest
articles, book spotlights and mega giveaways, it has become a unique
resource for writers and readers alike.
So…give a warm round of applause to all 350 content writers and
authors who visited us via various events from 2013 to 2019.
However, there were 104 guest writers this year alone. That’s
awesome! 🙂

Sneaky’s Interview of Ivy from Marie Lavender’s Romantic Drama Collection, Directions of the Heart
Posted by Marie Lavender
Ivy the cat from DIRECTIONS OF THE HEART visits this cool kitty blog!
Wow, Meow. I have another character cat of author Marie Lavender here with me today. What is your name, pretty cat?
My name is Ivy.
Very mice name for a cat character. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.
I appeared in Directions of the Heart. This is a modern romantic drama collection.
Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.
Ivy’s human co-star, Victoria.
I’m not in a book series, but you could say there is a series since there are four different tales in the collection. I am only in one of them, however. That tale is titled “Strange Heat.” The story is about my owner, Victoria, who goes on a bizarre adventure when she pretends to be someone else for a week. One of the other stories in the collection includes a Golden Retriever. Uggh…dogs!
Debbie has…

Book Lovers Tag
Posted by Marie Lavender
I talk about my reading preferences on the I Love Romance Blog…
Here’s a fun post for all. This is a Book Lovers Tag challenge. I came across this great tag over at D.G. Kaye Writer’s blog, where she invited anyone to join in. I thought it would be exciting to jump into the challenge, as besides being an author, I love reading romance novels (hence the blog’s namesake)! So, why not?
Do you have a specific place for reading?
Mostly, I read in bed, but now and then I cart one of my books to the living room or dining room and set up shop. And if I’m feeling really adventurous (this helps if we have pleasant weather, which is never a guarantee in Indiana), then I’ll sit outside on the patio and read to my heart’s content. 😉 Now and then, I actually read on the Kindle app on my tablet, but I’m more of a paperback/hardback kind of girl. The…

UNSTOPPABLE MARIE LAVENDER
Posted by Marie Lavender
My interview on A.B. Funkhauser’s site! 🙂
She’s a multi-published award winning author with a new book, BLUE VISION, out November 15th. Add on to these accomplishments the hugely successful blog WRITING IN THE MODERN AGE, and her newly launched graphic design company AMBROSIA INNOVATIONS, and you have Marie Lavender.
1.
Welcome back to the blog, Marie. You’ve won some awards since we last met. Tell us about the “Broken Heart” and the “I Love You.”
Those were two poetry awards, from contests which were in poetry groups on Facebook. I often peruse the awesome poetry in those discussion groups and when I saw the two contests, I thought, “Hell, why not enter my own?” This is the poem I entered for the ‘Broken Heart’ contest. And here is the one for the ‘I Love You’ contest. Believe it or not, the recognition I got from both was ‘Empress of the Universe’, quite apropos for my science fiction romance…

Interview: Marie Lavender!
Posted by Marie Lavender
A unique approach to an author interview, when Gloria Weber interviews me about superheroes! 🙂
Welcome to my first ever evil experiment author interview! This is something I’m hoping to do more often around here. In the secret liar today we have
superhero author Marie Lavender. Marie, please introduce yourself!
Hello! My name is Marie Lavender, a.k.a the Mystic Mindbender, and I live in a small town in Indiana. I love writing about aliens, vampires, witches, ghosts, other beings and humans with super psychic powers. I believe that there’s a little “superhero” in all of us. I am also a book nerd and a total shopping freak.
Oh, I like that bit, “there’s a little ‘superhero’ in all of us.” Might have to steal borrow it. But, on the superhero note, who is your favorite hero?
One of my favorite superheroes from a book is Merit from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires Series. I can totally identify with her quirky, kick-ass approach to things. And a former…

THE OWL LADY PRESENTS GUEST AUTHOR: Bestselling multi-genre author Marie Lavendar, Part 2

A guest article on Viv Drewa’s blog!
People tend to ask writers where they get their ideas. I often have no clue how to answer that question. Perhaps it was the well-turned phrase of a dinner companion, an article I read, or even a film I watched. Maybe it didn’t come from any of those sources. It’s possible that I wanted to write about a specific topic, but I was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. The dancing muse upon my shoulder whispered something in my ear, and then I had the audacity to shout, “Eureka! That’s perfect!”
I’m not the only writer who often sits back in awe of that miraculous crumb of a story. Where did it come from? It just appeared out of the ether. Maybe it crawled out of the corner of the wall there, from another dimension. Before I start to scare you, let me explain how the creative process…

Marie Lavender – Insights from Experience.
Posted by Marie Lavender
Welcome Marie and thanks very much for joining us on atime2write.
Q. You have over 19 books to your name, which is fantastic. When did you first publish your work? Was it self or traditionally published?
It was actually self-published at first. I published my first book in 2010. It was a literary fiction/poetry anthology titled Express Café and Other Ramblings. I went on to publish two subsequent literary fiction/poetry anthologies, all of which will be revised and re-released as Miss Lavender’s Anthology of Ramblings. So, look for that as a future release.
Q. So some of your work is traditionally published – how did you manage to get picked up by a publisher or agent?
Though I tried self-publishing, I held onto one manuscript for dear life, reserving it for traditional publishing. In 2011, I began submitting the manuscript to literary agents and publishers. In August of…

Author Interview on Rachael Stapleton’s blog

Fun interview on Rachael Stapleton’s blog!
Monday, January 12, 2015
Today I’m interviewing bestselling author Marie Lavendar who prefers a gel pen to a keystroke and a journal page to a computer.
When asked if she had any quirks she admitted that while she doesn’t write in the shower, she does find herself working on scenes in there. I had to agree…this happens to me all the time.
Desiree Edwards has a problem. She’s been attacked, kidnapped and forced to get along with a vampire of all things. It’s something right out of the story books she reads, or her worst nightmare. But, sometimes he’s not the monster he appears to be. He seems so humanlike that she can’t help it when her emotions betray her, when her body betrays her. To make matters worse, she finds out more about herself than she ever wanted to know.
She was unlike any other…
Alec has a problem…
