A new interview with yours truly! ♥
Welcome back to Behind Their Books. This time around we have a whole new set of questions and many great authors. The first author to answer these new questions is the multi-genre writer Marie Lavender!
Can you tell the readers a little bit about yourself?
Sure, I come from a small town in the Midwest. For privacy, I won’t say which one, but let’s just state it’s ‘Small Town U.S.A.’. Not being exposed to city life, I think, actually made me open my mind to more fantastic realms in my imagination. I have two cats, and I live with my family. I love reading romance books and shopping at different places. Don’t trust me with a credit card! LOL.
What genre(s) do you write in?
I’ve published 21 books in the genres of historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, romantic comedy, dramatic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, mystery/thriller, literary…

Hi, readers! This Q&A was originally exclusive to Mary E Thompson’s newsletter subscribers, but now I’m spreading the word…
TITLE: Magick & Moonlight (book one of the Magick Series)
AUTHOR: Marie Lavender
GENRE: Contemporary Romantic Fantasy
PITCH: Jessie hides her magickal secret to protect herself from Ethan, the town’s new resident. But she never imagined casting a simple spell could turn out so wrong, and oh, so right.

Love spells are dangerous, even more so for those who cast them…
Ethan Hamilton moves to a lazy little town in Oregon, hoping to escape his demons. Instead, he discovers a woman dancing nude in the moonlight. This woman who claims she is a witch dazzles him with her sensual presence. He thinks she’s crazy, but what if she’s not?
Jessie Anderson has been taught that her kind hides who they really are. And she has a problem on her hands. Someone knows her secret and she must do all she can to protect herself. What other choice does she have? Jessie casts a spell on a good man, a man with whom she can’t fight her attraction. The spell doesn’t work quite as planned.
Messing with free will is always a bad idea.
To top it off, Ethan’s treatment of her is so addictive. Deep down, she knows the effects will wear off, and yet his feelings seem genuine. It’s just a spell…right?
AUTHOR Q&A – About the Characters
Character Name: Ethan Hamilton
- What is your character’s profession? And your character’s greatest strengths?
Ethan used to be a police officer back in Seattle, but he is settling into a new home in Yachats, Oregon. He’s generous, honorable, and cares about other people.
- What are his/her greatest weaknesses?
He’s very hard on himself, and sees his flaws first rather than noticing any accomplishments. It’s also a challenge for him to trust others, or accept help when he needs it.
- What are some of his/her favorite foods?
Ethan is a real foodie, and in another life, he could’ve been a famous chef. He learned how to cook from his grandmother, and has made a point to expand on his talents in the kitchen. This tends to impress the women he dates.
- What’s a positive quality that your character is unaware that he or she has?
He is more forgiving than he gives himself credit for.
- Will readers like or dislike this character, and why?
Yes, I think they’ll see he’s a good man, that despite his plight, he is deserving of a decent life.
Character Name: Jessie Anderson
- What is your character’s profession? And your character’s greatest strengths?
Jessie owns a small giftshop, selling homemade candles and other New Age wares. Also as a Wiccan, she is a strong, independent soul, and finds joy in her craft.
- What are his/her greatest weaknesses?
She doesn’t easily trust others. She fears no one will understand her and her gifts, doesn’t even open up to her neighbors in town.
- What are some of his/her favorite foods?
Jessie fondly remembers the homemade foods her grandma used to make, but nowadays she doesn’t have a lot of time or energy to spend on a good meal.
- What’s a positive quality that your character is unaware that he or she has?
She sees beauty in the world, in the gifts Nature has provided.
- Will readers like or dislike this character, and why?
I think they will empathize with Jessie’s fear of someone discovering her secrets, and root for the couple’s relationship to succeed.

Here’s a new interview about my children’s fantasy book!
I’m really pleased to announce that today’s author interview is the fabulous Marie Lavender!

Marie is a multi-genre author, with 21 books, spanning romance to fantasy to children’s books. Marie is well known amongst writing circles for running a fantastically supportive blog, showcasing many of her fellow authors.
I hope you enjoy her interview where you can find out what Marie likes to read, why she writes and which of the many genres she writes in is her favourite!
Hi Marie, so what was your favorite children’s book growing up, and why?
Hmm…that’s hard to narrow down. I’ve always loved reading books. I guess it could’ve been a cross between The Bobbysey Twins series and The Boxcar Children book series.

What is your favorite children’s book to read to children, and why?
I don’t have children, per se, just fur babies! 😉 But I took a children’s literature class in…

An interview on When Angels Fly! 😉
Please welcome Marie Lavender to my blog. Hello Marie, have a seat and we shall chat for a short while.
Please introduce yourself to those reading this blog post.
Hello! Nice to visit your blog, Mary! I am an author of twenty-four books in various genres. I’m from a small town in the Midwest. I am a thirty-something woman and I hope to marry my fiancé sometime this year. I love shopping, reading and writing!
Has writing always been part of your life and when did you “know” that it was time to start writing your first book?
Yes, I’ve been writing fiction in some capacity since I was nine years old. I think I always knew I wanted to be an author.
In college, I had two stories published in a university anthology. By 2010, I started the indie publishing journey, and in 2011, I submitted my first historical…

OUTSIDE THE LINES: MARIE LAVENDER
Posted by Marie Lavender
Please welcome back to the blog, crowd-pleaser Marie Lavender. With a shiny new release out, Marie takes a pause to answer some questions about multi-genre writing and staying outside the box. Oh! And she has a WIP on the go too. Hey, Marie.
1.
With so many sub-genres to choose from, romance fans are truly fortunate. How do you define your work? Are you a traditional romance writer?
I actually prefer to define myself as a multi-genre author because I’m truly all over the place when it comes to the type of books I write. After releasing a children’s fantasy in 2015, I took a hard look at my works-in-progress, and then realized I needed to make a change instead of just calling myself a romance author. Some of the stories I have planned are dystopian or have time travel themes. I’ve even tried my hand at horror. Compared to…

The story is called The Missing Piece, and it’s a new adult romance. My interview on A.B. Funkhauser’s site! 🙂
She’s a multi-published award winning author with a new book, BLUE VISION, out November 15th. Add on to these accomplishments the hugely successful blog WRITING IN THE MODERN AGE, and her newly launched graphic design company AMBROSIA INNOVATIONS, and you have Marie Lavender.

Welcome back to the blog, Marie. You’ve won some awards since we last met. Tell us about the “Broken Heart” and the “I Love You.”
Those were two poetry awards, from contests which were in poetry groups on Facebook. I often peruse the awesome poetry in those discussion groups and when I saw the two contests, I thought, “Hell, why not enter my own?” This is the poem I entered for the ‘Broken Heart’ contest. And here is the one for the ‘I Love You’ contest. Believe it or not, the recognition I got from both was ‘Empress of the Universe’, quite apropos for my science fiction romance…

Interview
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a romance author. I have published 16 books. I have been writing since I was a kid.
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was raised in a small town in Indiana, so small they actually consider it “Small Town U.S.A.”. At the moment, I still live in Indiana, though I have plans to move eventually.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I feel like I’ve been writing forever. So I pretty much always considered myself a writer. I never considered myself an “author” until I published a book in 2010.
How much of yourself, your personality or your experiences, is in your books?
Oh, I think quite a lot is. Sometimes when I…
