My Author Journey by Marie Lavender
When Jill Marie asked me to talk about my author journey, I wanted to approach it a bit differently than I had in the past. So, let’s really get into the mindset, the life of an author, shall we?
Being an author isn’t about making the bestsellers list or tons of royalties or winning awards, though any of those are great. It’s not even about meeting your publisher’s deadlines. The defining moment for an author is different for everyone. And we constantly evolve.
My first defining moment was when I received my first book contract in 2012. And when that historical romance novel, Upon Your Return, came out six months later, when I first held the paperback in my…

Benefits of Being a Bibliophile
Posted by Marie Lavender
To my fellow book lovers…

There are many benefits to being a book lover. Maybe we have an unhealthy compulsion to buy books. Maybe we have no surface space not claimed by random literary treasures. We may regularly suffer from book hangovers, but by gollie we:
Prefer simple pleasures Never go to bed lonely

Get excited easily Have better vocabulary 😉

Never get bored Travel to distant lands

Never stop learning Have less stress

Improve memory …

Interview: Marie Lavender!
Posted by Marie Lavender
A unique approach to an author interview, when Gloria Weber interviews me about superheroes! 🙂
Welcome to my first ever evil experiment author interview! This is something I’m hoping to do more often around here. In the secret liar today we have superhero author Marie Lavender. Marie, please introduce yourself!
Hello! My name is Marie Lavender, a.k.a the Mystic Mindbender, and I live in a small town in Indiana. I love writing about aliens, vampires, witches, ghosts, other beings and humans with super psychic powers. I believe that there’s a little “superhero” in all of us. I am also a book nerd and a total shopping freak.
Oh, I like that bit, “there’s a little ‘superhero’ in all of us.” Might have to steal borrow it. But, on the superhero note, who is your favorite hero?
One of my favorite superheroes from a book is Merit from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires Series. I can totally identify with her quirky, kick-ass approach to things. And a former…

Book Review
Reviewed by Michelle Randall for Readers’ Favorite Alec is not your ordinary drop-dead handsome man, he is a vampire, and he smells the most amazing blood he has ever met. He is looking for it when he finds it at a festival. Desiree is a young woman with a broken heart and soul. She has been unlucky in love, but she thinks she is okay. Alec has to know more about her, he wants to know her, not just have a taste of her blood, which is something he has never done. Desiree is stronger than she thinks and her mind is even stronger; she is able to resist the normal vampire mind thoughts. Alec knows there is something special about her, but it also puts her in danger. He takes a bold step and kidnaps her, taking her to his house. Second Nature follows Alec and Desiree as she begins to learn about Alec and trust him. Along the way, they find something more than they ever thought possible, but they both know in reality it can never work, right? A human and a vampire? Author Marie Lavender gives us a different look into vampire-human relationships. Second Nature: Blood At First Sight Book 1 by author Marie Lavender is not your typical vampire novel. Alec is a lone vampire, he does not live in a group, or family. Vampires do not mix with humans at all, other than to take the amounts of blood they need, but only that much. So when Alec is taken with Desiree, this is something he is completely unprepared for and he has no idea how to handle it. Desiree has no idea vampires exist, but takes the news relatively well. Given her unlucky past with her ex-husband, she has a hard time trusting Alec, but he works to win her trust. In reality this is much more than a romance novel, it is the story of Alec and Desiree, and the fact that they are human and vampire is secondary. Anyone who enjoys a good romance should read this one; it is an emotional read! |

Thoughtful, 5 Star Review for Second Nature!
Posted by Marie Lavender
A new review for Second Nature!
As the author notes about the protagonist – a vampire, “All he’d ever hoped for, when you looked past the bitterness of fate, was acceptance. He had foolishly wanted to be accepted despite his supernatural flaws. And that just wasn’t possible.” That ironically is true for the very genre of romance in the sense that window of acceptance of deviations is rather slim…

A Short and Sweet Review for UYR!
Posted by Marie Lavender
Hi, readers! Just wanted to pop in and let you know about this cool review I discovered on Amazon for Upon Your Return, book one of the Heiresses in Love Series. Thank you, Crystal, for your kind words! 🙂
This review is from: Upon Your Return (Kindle Edition) A fiery adventure of unmistaken love. Never have I read such poignant literature. This author is my idol. I myself write historical romance, I can never hope to be as wonderful as she. This book will hold you captive and take you on a whirlwind of romance from the very first intriguing page to the very last. Well written and well executed. I cannot brag enough about this book. |
